Hilmand Afghanistan

 

The word “Hilmand” is derived from the old Pashto language.

The name has two parts:

• “Hil” which means strong or powerful.

• “Mand” which means continuous flow or continuity.

This name is specifically given to the Hilmand River, which is the longest river in Afghanistan and is also the source of the name of the province.

Historical sites of Hilmand Province

Helmand is an ancient and historical province of Afghanistan with many important sites. Here are some of its historical sites:

1. Bost Fort (Qalaa Bost)

 

• One of the most famous historical sites in Hilmand. This fort dates back to the early centuries of Islam and was built during the Abbasid Caliphate.The fort was very famous for its strategic location and was used for battles.

2. Hilmand River

  The Hilmand River is not only a source of water, but has also been the source of civilization for thousands of years. Many ancient canals and water systems have been found in this region, indicating thousands of years of agricultural practices.

 3. Band Bolan A historical dam used to store water.This dam is one of the oldest and most ancient engineering examples.

 

4. Lashkar Gah City• The old city of Lashkar Gah is a historical region of Hilmand that bears traces of ancient civilization.There are forts, houses, and other historical buildings left here from ancient times.

 

Hilmand is very important in terms of history, culture, and civilization, and the historical sites of this province are a living example of the ancient civilization of Afghanistan. Let me give you some information about Helmand. It is the largest province of Afghanistan in terms of area, covering 10 percent of the country's land. If we count the normal provinces, it is the size of 3 and a half provinces. Eighty percent of its land is inhabited by villages, deserts, and sands, and the remaining 20 percent is mountainous. It has 18 districts.

It has a population of about 3 million people. Its people are Pashtuns, and there are also Hazaras and Baloch. Dozens of tribes live together like brothers.

  The largest tribes are Alizai, Noorzai, Ishaqzai, Barakzai, Popalzai, Alokozai, Achakzai, Kharoti, Safian, Kakar, and many other tribes. Most of the people are engaged in agriculture.
